June 30, 2012 in Nigerian Current Affairs
Unknown gunmen have shot dead five policemen in Gulak, near Madagali Local Government in northeastern Adamawa State.
The slain policemen were reported to have been at their duty post at Madagali Police Divisional Headquarters in Gulak on Friday morning, when more than 30 gangsters laid siege on the station, looting its weapon store and setting the building ablaze. The three policemen on duty were shot dead.
According to reports, the same gunmen subsequently attacked two banks in the vicinity, killing the two policemen attached to the banks.
ASP Yoila Nemuel, the spokesperson for the Police in the state, confirmed the attacks but said no arrest had been made. He added the banks, one of which is First Bank, Gulak, were the real target of the criminals and not the policemen.
