Loud Bang Reported In Wuse II Abuja
July 3, 2012 in Nigerian Current Affairs
A loud explosion has been reported in the Wuse II District of the nation’s capital Abuja.
One resident of the district told THEWILL that the blast, which occurred around 9.30pm local time, shook the windows of his apartment.
The source added that the bang came from the direction of Sheriff Plaza and Banex Plaza located along Aminu Kano Crescent.
We are contacting local law enforcement to get details.
Update:
Nigeria Police Force Spokesman, Mr. Frank Mba in a phone chat with THEWILL has described the explosion as “a very low level explosion”. He said it was too early to determine what could have caused it and declined to say whether it was an IED.
He said that reports from first responders have shown that there were no casualties and no damaged or burning vehicles. He also said preliminary checks also showed that properties around where the explosion occurred were also not affected.
The Boko Haram has claimed responsibility for several bomb attacks in Northern Nigeria. About three (3) weeks ago, an IED exploded near a popular nightclub in the city but did not record any casualty.
